CPPIB invests US $400M for minority stake in WME│ IMG

pcJ News Briefs – Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) has agreed to acquire an 8% of minority stake in WME│ IMG for US $400 million, as part of US $1 billion investment by CPPIB and GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund.

GIC and CPPIB will own 20% stake, joining current investors Silver Lake, SoftBank and Fidelity as WME | IMG strategic partners. Silver Lake will continue its strategic partnership with‎ WME | IMG, which began with its first investment in WME in 2012, maintaining the entirety of its equity stake.

WME was formed in 1898 as William Morris Agency (WMA). In 2009, WMA merged with Endeavor to form WME, becoming one of the leading entertainment and media companies. In 2014, WME acquired IMG, the global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, forming WME | IMG.

Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Invests US$400 Million in WME│IMG

Toronto, ON, Canada (August 2, 2017) – Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) announced today that it has committed to invest US$400 million of equity in WME│ IMG, representing an 8% minority interest in the company.

WME | IMG represents a powerful and diverse roster of artists and creators across every entertainment vertical including motion picture, television, music, books, digital and theater. Its sports client roster ranges from professional athletes and sports federations and leagues to collegiate institutions.
