CAI Announces Investment in RebalanceMD
Vancouver, BC – September 8, 2020 – CAI Capital Partners (“CAI”) is pleased to announce that it has closed an investment in RebalanceMD Canada Ltd. (“RebalanceMD”), a Victoria-based operator of medical clinics that provide musculoskeletal (MSK) care including a full range of orthopedic surgical procedures and ancillary non-surgical services. RebalanceMD operates a +20,000 square foot clinic in Victoria with a team of highly integrated surgical and non-surgical physicians, physiotherapists and bracing/orthotic technicians.
Founded in 2013, RebalanceMD has developed a highly efficient triage system for patient care and case management and it has grown to become Victoria’s one-stop shop for MSK health. RebalanceMD works closely with the local health authority, Island Health, to optimize the utilization of hospital assets such as surgical suites and patient beds. The RebalanceMD system has contributed to average wait times for hip and knee replacements that are 30-40% lower in the Island Health region compared to other regions in BC.
CAI’s investment will provide significant capital for growth through the opening of new clinics, initially in BC and Alberta and, over the longer term, throughout Canada.
“We are extremely pleased to have found a partner in CAI that shares our vision to take our “Rebalance Way” into new markets,” said Stefan Fletcher, CEO of RebalanceMD, adding, “We bring the systems and capital required to bring a vastly differentiated experience to our professionals and their patients. With our uniquely effective “FAAST” triage system, we create a wonderful experience, 100% within the public healthcare system. Our vision to apply our practices in new clinics with adjacent physiotherapy and bracing operations has needed capital, and today we have that. With this, the future is wide open for us.”
Tracey McVicar, Partner of CAI, adds, “Our investment in RebalanceMD represents a unique growth opportunity. We look forward to working with Stefan, our new partners in RebalanceMD’s Victoria clinic, and practitioners in new markets to grow the business and deliver the difference RebalanceMD makes in Victoria across BC and Canada.”
RebalanceMD is headquartered in Victoria, BC where it operates a complete orthopedic, physical medicine, and sports injury care clinic. Surgical and non-surgical patients alike can access one-stop physiotherapy, bracing & orthotics and rehabilitation in-person or virtually through the clinic. At the core of RebalanceMD’s system is an advanced and highly developed triage called “FAAST” – First Available Appropriate Specialist Triage and the utilization of a highly customized electronic medical record (EMR) system. Through proper assessment and the ability to “rebalance” work loads, RebalanceMD offers patients the opportunity to be seen by a specialist appropriate for their specific requirements. This workflow balancing optimizes the capacity of each doctor, ensuring they are able to operate at the top of their scope of practice.
