CSE, Mining, PE/VC backed IPOs – bright spots of 2020 Canadian IPOs

In Contrast to the red hot initial public offering (IPO) and special purpose acquisition corporation (SPAC) market in the US, Canadian IPO market reported mixed results in 2020.

77 IPOs, including capital pool companies (CPCs) and SPACs, completed in 2020 on four Canadian Exchanges, Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE), Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), TSX Venture Exchange and NEO Exchange, for $5.55 billion in aggregate gross proceeds, or excluding CPCs and SPACs, 43 IPOs for $4.85 billion.

CSE led all exchanges with 25 IPOs, accounting for 58% of the total number of Non-CPC/SPAC IPOs.

23 mining IPOs completed in 2020, accounting 53% of the total number of Non-CPC/SPAC IPOs.

4 Private Equity (PE) and 2 Venture Capital (VC) raised a combined $3,538 million representing 73% of total Non-CPC/SPAC IPO amount.
