OurCrowd Launches the First Venture Capital Fund Accessible to Small Investors in Canada

OC50 Series IV Fund brings VC investing to broad range of accredited investors, with industry-lowest contributions, eligible for RRSP and TFSA

TORONTO & JERUSALEM–(BUSINESS WIRE)–OurCrowd, one of the world’s largest global venture investing platforms, has announced that the fourth series in its flagship portfolio index fund, OC50, will be available to individual investors in Canada with unprecedented low minimum contributions and the ability to invest from their registered savings accounts, opening the doors for thousands of accredited investors to enter the potentially lucrative world of VC investing.

“OurCrowd is democratizing access to the critical venture capital asset class. The kind of investments that used to be reserved exclusively for billionaires and well connected financial institutions, are now available to all accredited Canadian investors through the OC 50 Fund,” says OurCrowd Vice President, Investor Relations, David Shore. “Additionally, because we want Canadians to be able to maximize the full long-term value of this investment, we have structured the Fund to ensure it is RRSP and TFSA eligible.”

For the past two decades, an influx of seed and growth capital has resulted in private companies delaying their IPOs until much later in their lifecycle, significantly limiting potential returns once they are public. Moreover, the majority of companies are foregoing IPOs altogether and capitalizing on their market value through M&A exits, shutting the doors on frustrated would-be investors.

“OurCrowd is changing the VC game by creating a product that will significantly increase access to this asset category for more Canadians,” says OurCrowd CEO Jon Medved. “For the first time, individual accredited investors can invest small amounts in a private venture fund that counted as two of its recent investments among the top performing IPO’s of 2019 and 2020, Beyond Meat and Lemonade.”

OurCrowd’s OC50 was created as a hyper-diversified investment vehicle to break open the gates and offer more investors access to highly-vetted startups across a variety of sectors, stages and geographies, enabling investors to participate in the next 50 OurCrowd investment opportunities across a spectrum of today’s most dynamic growth industries, including healthcare technology, transportation, agriculture, communication, enterprise, robotics and AI.

Through the first three series of the OC50 Fund, investors have benefited from OurCrowd companies entering the public equity markets – such as food company Beyond Meat and insurance provider Lemonade — or attracting takeovers by companies like Vimeo, H&R Block, Uber, and NetApp.

The original OC50 Series I Fund launched in 2017. Six companies in the fund have completed exits, generating on average 2.3 times gross return on invested capital as of the end of Q3 2020*.
