Power Financial affiliated SGS acquires ILC Micro-Chem

SGS SA (SIX Swiss: SGSN) has acquired ILC Micro-Chem Inc., a Mississauga, Ontario based independent laboratory providing microbiology and food chemistry testing services.

ILC Micro-Chem is specialized in the analysis of raw food materials, finished food products and environmental swabs for the food manufacturing industry.

Founded in 1985 and privately owned, ILC employs 15 experts and generated 2016 revenues in excess of CDN $1.3 million.

“This acquisition provides SGS with access to the food safety testing market in Ontario,” said Frankie Ng, CEO of SGS. “It is an excellent complement to our portfolio of services across the Agri-Food value chain in Canada.”

Geneva, Switzerland based SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. In October 2016, SGS acquired Sidney, BC based AXYS Analytical Services.

Power Financial through Parjointco, a 50/50 holding company between Power and the Frère family group of Belgium, is a significant indirect shareholder in SGS. Paul Desmarais, Jr served on SGS board of directors.
