super{set} Closes $90 Million Fund II to Intensify Their Serial Success of Building Data+AI Companies

Startup Studio will leverage second fund to build out data+AI ideas into transformational software

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 28, 2024: super{set}, a startup studio, announces it has closed Fund II with $90 million in funding. This new fund elevates super{set}’s committed capital to $176 million, reinforcing its commitment to founding, funding, and scaling innovative data+AI startups.

Since its inception, super{set} has been at the forefront of the data+AI revolution, having successfully launched 16 startups, including Habu, the leading data collaboration company recently acquired for $200 million. This achievement underscores super{set}’s expertise and unique approach to building enterprise-ready companies in this rapidly evolving sector.

Tom Chavez, Founding General Partner, said that super{set}’s veteran status in what is considered a relatively new sector is exactly what tees them up for success: “Fund II isn’t just where we double down on what’s working, it’s where we get to avoid all the gutterballs and increase our strikes. With each successive company, we apply the insights of a hundred scars we earned ourselves to keep the cycle of learning and improvement going.”

A Focus on Founding Data+AI Companies In-House
super{set} was co-founded by Tom Chavez and Vivek Vaidya in 2019, who both serve as Founding General Partners alongside Jeremy Klein as General Partner. Chavez and Vaidya are serial entrepreneurs who began the San Francisco-headquartered startup studio after selling Krux to Salesforce in 2016. They believe company building, from stage zero to enterprise scale, is a reproducible craft in which learnings across companies produce stronger outcomes.

super{set} distinguishes itself through a deep specialization in data+AI, focusing on the engineering of AI to develop practical and impactful solutions. Every super{set} company generates, captures, orchestrates, analyzes, and activates data to transform data into measurable impact and unassailable value for enterprises. The team’s vast experience and proven track record in data management position super{set} uniquely to identify and capitalize on this uncapped market opportunity.

Arthur Patterson, super{set} LP and co-founder of legendary VC firm Accel voiced his support for super{set}’s continued growth: “Tom and Vivek are talented serial entrepreneurs who understand the potential for data and AI to reimagine existing sectors and problem spaces. I’ve watched them create new companies for over two decades, including over the last five years at super{set}. Every super{set} company has their mark: the identification of a clear market need and a proprietary advantage rooted in data. They have demonstrated the ability to build super{set} into a firm that can consistently create important companies, which is why I’m lucky to continue to partner with them.”

A Tradition of Discerning and Growing Talent
super{set}’s co-founders range from home-grown heroes to transplants from Big Tech to veterans of early-stage startups. They’re able to build world-class teams by writing a People Memo for every hire: a proprietary method that helps them look past the noise and discern the diamonds in the rough.

“Regardless of background, all our team members leave their ego at the door and work shoulder-to-shoulder with us to build great companies.” Says Chavez. “This people-first performance culture motivates talent, prioritizes mentorship, and drives success.”

super{set} creates the soil conditions for world-class technologists to tackle problems at scale with a committed team of bona fide builders by their side.
