StoneCalibre has acquired Applied Voice & Speech Technologies Inc. (AVST), a Foothill Ranch, California based developer of software-based Unified Communications (UC) solutions and merged AVST with portfolio company, XMedius Solutions Inc.

Founded by Brian Wall in 2012, Los Angeles, California based StoneCalibre is a privately funded investment firm specializing in the acquisition of lower middle market companies.

In December 2015, StoneCalibre formed XMedius Solutions through the acquisition of the Secure Document Exchange business unit, which includes Sagemcom Canada Inc., from Sagemcom Documents SAS of France.

AVST was established in September 2003 from the combined businesses of Sound Advantage (established in 1997) and the AVT division (established in 1982) of Captaris, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAPA).

With its global headquarters located in Montreal, the new XMedius Solutions will provide a complete set of communication tools that leverage voice and data through IP networks using different types of enterprise grade solutions, either on-premises or in the cloud.

The combination of AVST and XMedius creates a new leader in communication solutions, whether voice or data, with over 500 partners and nearly 4,500 active customers worldwide. The company will leverage the resources of both organizations, including complementary sales channels, to accelerate its sales and maintain the best-in-class customer service for which they are both renowned.

“We are extremely pleased to announce this compelling transaction, as it brings together two highly complementary companies as part of the StoneCalibre family”, said Brian Wall, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of StoneCalibre. “Both have long track records of innovation and commitment to helping their customers build cutting-edge solutions for today’s business environments. And, while AVST focuses on improving the productivity of its customers’ communications, XMedius enables those communications to be secure.”

“The integrated companies’ expertise in developing software solutions will allow us to deliver world-class integrated product offerings and services and provide greater value to our customers,” said Jean Champagne, President and Chief Executive Officer of XMedius. “We’re excited to be joining forces with AVST as it enters into the next chapter of its growth trajectory. Blending the complementary UC and secure file exchange offerings of our organizations uniquely positions the combined company at the forefront of a new generation of solutions.”
